We are pleased to invite you to contribute to the 11th EATSA
Conference (Euro-Asia Tourism Studies Association), which will take place in Bali-Indonesia,
between June 23-27, 2025. The central theme of the conference is “Wellness and Sustainability
Tourism in ‘Paradise’.”
Sustainable tourism is a dynamic approach that fosters authentic cultural exchange and
local community empowerment. By engaging travelers in meaningful activities that highlight local
traditions, arts, and crafts, sustainable tourism has the potential to revitalize communities,
promote cultural heritage, and contribute to economic resilience. This year's theme will
encourage us to think beyond conventional sustainability practices and to envision a tourism
industry that thrives on creativity, inclusiveness, and mutual respect.
The conference program features a diverse array of speakers, shows, and panel discussions,
each designed to inspire and challenge our thinking. Experts from various fields will share
their insights on how creative approaches can enhance tourism experiences, address the
challenges of overtourism, and promote responsible travel. We will hear success stories from
communities that have harnessed the power of creativity to transform their local economies and
cultural landscapes.
The 11th Euro-Asia Tourism Studies Association (EATSA) International Conference is an

The Euro-Asia Tourism Studies Association (EATSA) is an international forum for
researchers and industry experts to exchange information regarding advances in the state of the
art and application of tourism, hospitality and leisure management in the region of Euro-Asia.
We are committed to the best practices in Tourism and Hospitality research. This is, to ensure
high standards of international cooperation, with the aim to bolster the scientific knowledge in
Tourism and Hospitality research.
The members of EATSA should agree to conduct their research, according to the same
standards of research integrity, while respecting the laws and sovereignty of the States of all
participating parties. In funded international projects, the promotion of good practice and the
handling of any potential cases of conflict of interest and/or misconduct, as recommended by the
coordinating committee of the OECD Global Science Forum, should be followed.
The EATSA aims are to:
• Promote research and education in the field of tourism, hospitality and recreation in Asia and
Europe, with special focus on the comparative international studies.
• Promote the dialogue among scholars of all scientific disciplines engaged in the tourism
studies, in order to move from the current multi-disciplinary approach to a more integrated and
trans-disciplinary approach.
• Foster closer connections between tourism academia and tourism industry
• Encourage the exchange of research results, practical experience, and ideas by organising
conferences, meetings and developing research networks among members and institutions.
• Promote a more intensive cooperation between European and Asian scholars in the fields of
Tourism, Hospitality and Recreation.

The Ph.D. and Masters Workshop is a safe space for postgraduates at all levels to explore the various stages in your thesis research and writing journey. The aim is to understand and manage the Arts and Science of thesis writing, as well as your supervisors. The focus is on avoiding self-sabotage during thesis completion.
Objective: To produce a three-minute thesis presentation (optional) at the end of the workshop and acquire effective coping strategies for successfully completing your thesis. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet the Editorial Team of the EATSA Journal (EATSJ).

Joseph M. Cheer is a Professor of Sustainable Tourism and Heritage, and Associate Dean, International, School of Social Sciences, Western Sydney University, Australia, and a Visiting Professor at the Center for Tourism Research (CTR), Wakayama University, Japan.
In 2023, Joseph was listed in the Top 2% of researchers in the Sport, Leisure and Tourism field.
He is Co-Editor-in-Chief of Tourism Geographies, Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum Global Future Council on the Future of Sustainable Tourism, and Co-Chair of the American Association of Geographers, Recreation, Tourism and Sport (AAGRTS) group, and newly elected Chair of the International Geographical Union Commission on Tourism, Leisure and Global Change.
Joseph is a past board member of PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association), an advisory board member of the UNWTO Best Tourism Villages initiative, and an empaneled consultant to the Asian Development Bank PSDI (Pacific Private Sector Development Initiative).
As well as holding adjunct professorship at Wakayama University (Japan), he holds adjunct roles at Hainan University (China), AUT (New Zealand) and the University of Johannesburg (South Africa).
He has received research funding from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Sciences (JSPS), the Australian Research Council (ARC), Tourism Research Australia, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT), Australia Japan Foundation, and Australia China Council, among others.
Joseph has published 12 books, over 70 book chapters and journal articles, and non-traditional publications for The Conversation, World Economic Forum, UNESCO, Asian Development Bank, Global Research Institute, among others.
Joseph is regularly quoted or invited to provide commentary to mainstream media including recently in Asia Nikkei, The Guardian, ABC Australia, SBS, BBC World, CCTV China, CNBC, Channel News Asia, Yahoo! News, and Radio NZ, among others.
Hera Oktadiana is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Griffith Institute for Tourism, Griffith University, and at James Cook University, Australia. She is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Brawijaya, Indonesia, and a lecturer in the postgraduate and doctoral programs at Trisakti Institute of Tourism, Indonesia. Hera holds a Ph.D. from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) certification from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute, USA.
Hera has served as the Head of the Hotel Management and Hospitality and Tourism departments at BINUS University, BINUS International, and Bunda Mulia University. Additionally, she has held the position of Deputy Manager for International Hotel and Tourism at Trisakti School of Tourism.
Hera’s research areas include tourist behavior, particularly Muslim tourists, Muslim/Halal tourism, and tourism education. She has published her scholarly works in various reputable international tourism journals, as well as in the form of book chapters and an edited book titled “Delivering Tourism Intelligence: From Analysis to Action”. Several of her academic works and publications have received awards, including from the Ministry of Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, the Council for Australasian Tourism and Hospitality Education (CAUTHE), and Wiley Publication.
Hera is actively involved as a member of the Editorial Board in renowned international tourism journals indexed by SCOPUS, serving as a guest editor, review editor, editorial advisory board member, and associate editor. She is a founder of Muslim Women in Tourism & Hospitality (M.WiTH).
Petra Gyurácz-Németh is an Associate Professor at the University of Pannonia, Veszprém, Hungary. She holds a bachelor's degree in tourism and hospitality and a master's degree in economics (specializing in marketing management) from the University of Pannonia. She has experience in several areas of tourism. Petra Gyurácz-Németh worked in the tourist information office of one of the most visited towns in Hungary. She also has experience in tour operations, working in Budapest (capital of Hungary) for a Hungarian tour operator specializing in sports tours, especially Olympic Games.
She started her relationship with the hotel industry as a hotel employee, working in various positions such as housekeeping supervisor, reservation agent, and receptionist. She gained experience in hotel standardization and customization, which became her PhD research topic. In addition to her doctoral research, she started teaching and modernizing hotel-related subjects at the Department of Tourism, University of Pannonia. Her research on hotel standardization and customization was defended and received an excellent rating (summa cum laude). The topic is continued by her PhD student, EATSA member Kitti Hiezl, who focuses more on personalization.
Initially, her research interest included hotel quality, mostly from a process management point of view, then innovation became the focus, which included topics on types of innovation and innovation culture in the hotel sector. After innovation, sustainability came into focus, highlighting sustainability policies and strategies. This topic became particularly important through multidisciplinary research when the Hungarian National Laboratory for Climate Change was established under the leadership of the Rector of the University of Pannonia. Then she started developing the social footprint and focusing on responsibility.
She is currently leading a research group called Career break and career change in tourism under the shadow of Covid-19 - Analyzing the career paths of senior and former tourism students, which focuses on tourism employment, one of the most important issues in the tourism sector. In addition to her research, she has been Program Leader for the MSc in Tourism Management, President of the Student Scientific Committee at the Faculty of Economics, led national projects and established and managed the Quality Centre at the University of Pannonia for 4 years. She is currently head of the Institute of Business Studies at the Faculty of Business and Economics.
Anne-Marie Lebrun is an Associate Professor at the Université de Bourgogne. She holds a PhD in Management Science from the IAE Business School at Université de Bourgogne and an HDR (accreditation to supervise research), alongside a Master’s Degree in Tourism Management from the University of Aix-en-Provence. With over a decade of experience as a market analyst at the Chamber of Commerce of Dijon, she now directs the Master’s program in Sports Management – Consumption of Sport and Destination Brands. She has served as Vice-President of the Université de Bourgogne, where she led initiatives in continuing and professional adult education.
She is an active member of the CREGO research laboratory, and co-leads the PARC (Recreation and Cultural Practices and Activities) research group. In addition, she regularly serves as a reviewer for international journals, including Tourism Management, International Journal of Tourism Research, and European Journal of Marketing. Her research focuses on consumer behavior, experiential consumption, and social representation in tourism, sports, and active leisure, with recent projects exploring gastronomy, wine, and beer tourism.
With over 40 publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, her work contributes to advancing knowledge in these fields.
Francisco Dias holds a PhD degree in Tourism Sciences from the University of Perpignan (France). From 2010 to 2013, he was the director of the Tourism Research Unit of the Polytechnic of Leiria. He was the first editor-in-chief of the European Journal of Tourism, Hospitality and Recreation (EJTHR), from 2010 until 2015. He also was the founder and the first President of the EATSA – Euro-Asia Tourism Studies Association.
His empirical studies cover a large scope of tourism, mostly its psychological and sociological aspects - imaginary, social representations, destination image, motivation, perceived quality, and several aspects of destination management. He is also the vice-president of Centro de Portugal Film Commission.
Nowadays he is coordinating four important projects:
Prof. Purwo Santoso is a professor specializing in governance and policy-making at Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He earned his Ph.D. at the Department of Government, the London School of Political Science, where his thesis focused on the politics of environmental policy-making in Indonesia. His expertise in international development has also led him to gain a deep understanding of the tourism sector.
Prof. Dodi W. Irawanto is a professor in the Department of Management at Brawijaya University, serving since 2001. From 2018 to present, he has served as Secretary of the Directorate of Research and Community Services. Previously, from 2006 to 2008, he served as Chief of the Indonesian Association of Master Management Program. During 2010–2011, he was a visiting associate professor at the IPU Tertiary Institute, New Zealand, and in 2018, he was a visiting professor at Yuan Ze University in Taiwan. In 2024, he will be a visiting professor at Universiti Technology MARA Kedah, Malaysia.
Prof. Irawanto holds a B.Economics from Brawijaya University (1999) and an M.Com. from Wollongong University, Australia. He completed his Ph.D. in cross-cultural leadership at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand, in 2010.
His research interests span human resources management and cross-cultural leadership, with significant work in HRM and organizational behaviour. In the last five years, he has actively conducted research and community service in the area of community tourism. He has published over 50 articles in reputable journals and authored three books, published both nationally and internationally.
Recently, Prof. Irawanto has focused on streamlining research into commercialization. His leadership research has resulted in the innovation of a real-time web-based leadership assessment used by many companies in Indonesia. This led to the creation of his start-up digital company, LocalLead.id.
Prof. Irawanto currently serves as Editor in Chief of the Asia-Pacific Management and Business Application Journal, a Sinta-2 Indonesian National Accredited Journal since 2013. He is also an editor of the Asia Pacific Business Review Journal, a SSCI and Scopus-indexed journal published by Taylor and Francis. In the past five years, he has been a keynote speaker at both national seminars and international conferences.
Among his prestigious awards, he has won the Marry Mallon HR Award from New Zealand and has been listed among the top five scientists in social sciences at Brawijaya University, along with many other accolades.
Viana Hassan is actively involved in academic and research work in Tourism & Cultural Management in Lebanon and Malta. She is the Founder and CEO of the European Tourism and Events Training Academy. She earned her Ph.D. in Tourism Management and Culture from Saint Joseph University, Beirut, with a thesis entitled “Medical Tourism in Lebanon”. She has over 19 years of experience in tourism, spanning various roles, from airline sales (MEA) to co-managing several Lebanese travel agencies.
Viana is an experienced lecturer with over 16 years of teaching experience at several universities in Lebanon, including Lebanese University, A.U.L, Lebanese International University, and Islamic University. She has also lectured at the Institute of Tourism Studies, STC Higher Education (partner of Wolverhampton University UK and University of Malta), GBS Malta (partner of Spa Bath University UK), American University of Malta, and Scholars School System (UK). Her expertise includes tourism management, customer service, branding, event management, airline business management, niche tourism, business operations management, customer acquisition, and medical tourism.
Dr. Viana has participated in numerous international conferences, such as Expo Dubai 2020 and the 7th Medical Tourism World Summit, and has presented her work in cities such as Athens, Paris, Vienna, Dubai, Beirut, Valencia, Amman, Lisbon, Istanbul, and India. She has also published papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Ahmad Albattat is a Visiting Professor and External Examiner at Medan Academy of Tourism (Akpar Medan). He received a PhD in Hospitality Management with a focus on "Disaster and Emergency Planning and Preparedness" from University Sains Malaysia (USM), Malaysia. He worked as an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Management, Post Graduate Centre, Management and Science University, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, and as an Assistant Professor at Ammon Applied University College, Amman, Jordan. He was also a Senior Lecturer and Research Coordinator in the School of Hospitality & Creative Arts, Management and Science University, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, and a Researcher at the Sustainable Tourism Research Cluster (STRC), Pulau Pinang, Malaysia.
He worked in the Jordanian hospitality industry for 17 years. His teaching and consultancy fields include hospitality management, events management, research methodology, strategic management, and final research projects. His research areas include hospitality management, hotel, tourism, events, emergency planning, disaster management, sustainable development goals, and human resources.
He is an active member of several Scientific and Editorial Boards of international journals, as well as a reviewer, author, and editor for book projects. His latest works have been published in refereed international journals, conference proceedings, books, and book chapters.
Registration Deadline: March 31, 2025
No matter if the paper is single-authored or multi-authored, if you would like to have the paper published in the proceedings, you need to pay the registration fee for each paper. In case the paper is multi-authored and more than one author would like to participate in the conference, each participant needs to make registration and pay the registration fee separately. Unpaid manuscripts will be treated as withdrawn.
Cancellation Policy for the Conference: If we receive your written cancellation before May 1, 2025, the balance of the registration fee will be refunded after deducting an administrative fee of €100. There will be no refund for cancellations received after May 1, 2025.

Upon successful registration, you can submit the abstract/full paper in the prescribed format and within the stipulated time for successful acceptance by the scientific committee. Authors are invited to submit abstracts related to the conference themes. The abstract should be written in English (in MS Word format only) and structured as follows:
The abstract format should adhere to A4 size with 2.5-cm top margin, 3-cm bottom margin, and 1.5-cm side margins. Single-spaced, 10pt Times New Roman, with 100-250 words in length.

Presenters will have 15 minutes to present their papers, followed by 5 minutes for questions. Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in with the session chair.

Best Paper Award
The Best Paper Award is given to the author of the paper which has the highest quality among all competitive papers presented at the conference.

The aim of the Euro-Asia Tourism Studies Journal is to provide a platform to promote junior European and Asian researchers. It is an Open Access Journal, whose key purpose is to encourage Early Career Researchers (ECR), Ph.D., and Masters Candidates to publish their research outcomes. It also provides an opportunity for ECRs to manage the editorial board, supported and mentored by our member advisory senior academics. We encourage all aspiring authors to submit their research work for consideration. Our capable editorial board will provide help and support to ease any publication challenges. In this way, our commitment is to assist a new generation of European and Asian tourism researchers to realize their publication potential.
